Bankmonitor

Due to the business growth plans, Bankmonitor required to build and operate a scalable, fault-tolerant, highly available container platform without vendor lock-in.

The challenge

Due to several planned partnerships and integrators in the fintech space, the agility, flexible integration and interoperability across other platforms and vendors were a big challenge and requirement towards a transparent and standardized platform, which will meet future requirements as wellTC2 partnered with Bankmonitor to come up with an optimized AWS development and deployment with Kubernetes model to support their growth plans.

The solution

Bankmonitor  commissioned TC2 to migrate a long-running Kubernetes system to Amazon EKS. Thanks to the migration, there was also a change of EC2 generation, which meant a significant cost reduction for the customer. “Kubernetes on AWS” optimization of Kops and EC2 based system by migrating to Amazon EKS and retaining CICD system. Automatic, system-wide monitoring and alarm system with cost-effective AWS native solution. Besides the microservices based EKS platform, Bankmonitor also needed their WordPress solution to be hosted on AWS, hosting several hunders of important content which are linked back to the microservices engine, making WordPress a mission critical component of their business.

TC2 designed and implemented these systems, coordinated and cooperated with client’s engineers to make a successful cutover within the desired time window, and started supporting it for any upcoming issues and problems. On the operations side, TC2 has reviewed and optimized multiple times over the years the designed architecture with new services used, with cost optimization by rightsizing and reserving resources whilst providing support for any upcoming issues with the systems.

AWS solution

Microservice based application is implemented in EKS with RDS Aurora backend, having the DNS management and loadbalancing also implemented with AWS services. WordPress stack runs on an EC2 combined with RDS, having auto healing and redundancy implemented in all operational levels. There are a number of AWS Lambda solutions further optimizing the operational overhead and the cost of the solution, where there was applicable use case for serverless technologies.

Outcomes and success metrics

Business agility and the ability to respond quickly to changes on the IT platform level is a key to success for Bankmonitor. With TC2, proactive monitoring, just in time scaling, extending the infrastructure services and resolving issues helps Bankmonitor to achieve their business objectives. During an earlier demand peak, which was generated by a Hungarian law change, all financial services consulting companies had faced a huge increase in demand. Bankmonitor was the only provider not having their IT website and services crashed or not having availability issues during that period of time, making it an outstanding business opportunity for the client.
